Discovery Communications has acquired Raw, the U.K. independent production team behind the hit reality series Gold Rush, which airs on the Discovery Channel. It’s a move that will help Discovery continue its overseas expansion and to diversify its content.

The deal was announced Monday, although no financial terms were made public, notes The Hollywood Reporter. Raw would continue producing scripted programs and will also develop films.

Lee Bartlett, president, Discovery Studios and Production Group, said in a statement that he hopes to see Raw continue its success. “We are looking forward to Raw infusing our ever-expanding creative pipeline with compelling stories that will be seen on Discovery’s networks around the world,” Bartlett added.

Deadline notes that Bartlett also pointed out that today marks the debut of AHC: American Heroes Channel, the rebranded Military Channel. The two moves show the company’s “ongoing strategy of increasing investment in new brands, new content creators, new programming genres, and new opportunities across more platforms in more regions of the world.”

Aside from Gold Rush, Raw’s other productions include Paranormal Witness for SyFy, Locked Up Abroad on National Geographic and the U.K. scripted series Blackout on Channel 4.
