Good news baseball fans baseball season is officially underway. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks started things off with a two-game series in Sydney Australia.
The Dodgers won both games at the Sydney Cricket Ground over the weekend. They played for a sold out crowd of 40,000. According to the bostonherald this is the first time MLB games have been played in Australia. In past years games have been held in Mexico, Puerto Rico and four times in Tokyo.
On Saturday the Dodgers outscored the Diamondbacks 3-1 and started ace Clayton Kershaw on the mound. But, hitting sensation Yasiel Puig went 0-5 with three strikeouts. Puig performed better on Sunday when he had three hits and two RBIs to back starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu. Ryu did not give up a run and felt satisfied with his performance.
Although the Diamondbacks went 0-2 for the series they still enjoyed the trip down under. According to the Associated Press Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said, “It was a great trip here, other than we lost twice."
