Frank Ocean may have returned the advance he was paid by Chipotle, but added a parting shot to the restaurant chain on the check.
Ocean posted a picture on his Tumblr that was a photo of a check for the amount Chipotle has claimed he owes them. He also wrote in the memo section, "F--k Off."
Whether the check was really for Chipotle, or sent, is not yet known, according to The Hollywood Reporter. A Chipotle rep said, "We've seen the photo, but haven't received a check."
Who the check was supposedly going to isn't exactly known either since that portion was blacked out. Another post on his Tumblr was a link to the Wikipedia article about defamation, but whether the two are related also can't be guaranteed, though it seems likely.
As previously reported, Chipotle filed a lawsuit against Ocean for backing out of its "The Scarecrow" ad campaign and not repaying an advance of $215,000.
Ocean initially agreed to a $425,000 deal where he would sing "Pure Imagination" during a commercial that was aimed at promoting buying local and the negative consequences about industrial farming.
His legal team has claimed that Ocean backed out after the ad, which eventually featured Fiona Apple singing, because originally it did not feature a logo for Chipotle at the end of the commercial. They also claimed he was given the "right to approve the matter and all advertising," which Chipotle has denied.
The lawsuit called for the return of the advance and additional financial damages from Ocean.
