Lena Dunham has seen immense success with her HBO show Girls, and it’s now opening up new doors for her. She will now be writing a four-part Archie comic.
Dunham talked about the new project in a statement, which is an attempt for Archie Comics to update their image and an opportunity for Dunham to fulfill a childhood dream.
"I was an avid Archie collector as a child. Conventions, first editions that l kept in plastic sleeves, the whole shebang,” she said in a statement, MTV News reports. “It has so much cultural significance but also so much personal significance, and to get to play with these beloved characters is a wild creative opportunity."
The announcement of Dunham’s hiring was hidden in a New York Times article announcing Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa as Archie’s new Chief Creative Officer.
Dunham’s four-part contribution will be out next year, with her focus being mostly on the girls.
ComicBook.com notes Dunham won two Golden Globes for Girls last year - Best Television Series — Musical or Comedy, and Best Actress — Television Series Musical or Comedy.
Aguirre-Sacasa said of Dunham’s pitch, “I can tell you, it’s going to be fantastic.”
