Goran Dragic returned after missing one game with an ankle sprain to set a new career high in scoring with 40 on Friday night in the Phoenix Sun's 116-104 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Dragon broke his previous scoring high 35, which he only set a few games before, and helped the Suns snap their three-game skip, reports The Associated Press. No Suns player has had a 40-point game since Amare Stoudemire scored 44 almost four years ago.
The Pelicans got back their All-Star forward Anthony Davis, who was out with a shoulder sprain, and he tied his own scoring high during the game with 32.
According to Azcentral, the Suns desperately needed this win to keep pace in the competitive Western Conference where they were barely holding on to the eighth seed ahead of the Memphis Grizzlies after losing three in a row, two coming at home.
The Suns got a bit of good news as they now have a little breathing room as the Grizzlies lost on the road on Friday night to the Oklahoma City Thunder, who snapped their own three-game skid.
The Suns have faded recently on the defensive end of the court, but were able to clamp down on the Pelicans in the third quarter after being behind by 10. After tying the game, a quick 17-1 burst in the last 12 minutes allowed the Suns to completely take control.
