Grandville High School Hockey team captain, Ryan Fischer passed away from an enlarged heart on Friday.
He died early Friday in his own home in Mich. and all funeral plans were announced Saturday, according to WZZM 13.
Fischer was a well-versed student as well as a respected athlete—with a 4.0, dedication to three sports and expectations to go to school at West Point.
Hours before game time, Ryan Fischer died unexpectedly from heart complications but despite the shocking news, the game continued in his honor.
After the final buzzer went off at Friday’s game between Grandville High School and Detroit Central Catholic, the team decided to honor their captain in the most fitting way possible.
They lost 3-0 but fans and spectators raised their index fingers to display respect to Fischer and his jersey number, 11, according to Fox Sports. The team continued to huddle around the net for prayer and was later joined by the entire Central Catholic team.
