The Rangers’ goalie, Henrik Lundqvist won his 300th game, made thirty saves and gained his 49th career shutout against the Red wings, 3-0 on Sunday.
The Rangers shut out the Red Wings twice out of their three game season sweep. “The King” is just one win away from Mike Richter’s all-time record, as reported by The NY Daily News
Lundqvist did have the help of his teammates, though, as Brian Boyle started the game on the right foot by scoring in the first period, giving the Rangers a 1-0 lead.
Chris Kreider was responsible for making two goals in the third period—one of them occurring just 14 seconds in. All three goals were scored during five-on-five plays, which the Rangers haven’t been able to accomplish in seven games.
“I started thinking about it after two periods: Why not go for a doughnut and 300 wins? It was a good challenge for me,” said Lundqvist, according to CBS Sports
Sunday’s win pushed the Rangers one point ahead of the Philadelphia Flyers and once more, took over the second spot in the Metropolitan Division. The Rangers will hit the road for three away games against Carolina, Minnesota, and Winnipeg.
