The Houston Texans released their starting safety Danieal Manning on Sunday after he would not agree to take a pay cut that the Texans requested.
According to ESPN, Manning was set to make a $4.5 million base salary this season with a cap number of $6 million. He signed a contract with the Texans in 2011. It was a four-year deal worth $5 million a year, and $9 million of it was guaranteed.
Manning fractured his fibula last season though, which caused him to miss 10 games, according to CBS Sports. Manning's injury and the signing of safety Chris Clemons made him expendable in the eyes of the front office. Clemons was signed to a two-year deal worth $2.7 million with $450,000 in guaranteed money.
Manning had a solid stint with the Texans though, intercepting two passes in both 2011 and 2012. He recorded 77 tackles in 2012 as well. He is expected to be fully healthy and ready for the 2014 season.
