The Houston Texans finished the 2013 season with a league-worst 2-14 record, and their problems at the quarterback position were the main culprit behind their struggles. They are expected to address this in the draft, but they took a dip into the free agency pool by signing Ryan Fitzpatrick.
According to ESPN, Fitzpatrick's new contract is for two years. He spent last season with the Tennessee Titans and started nine games while filling for the injury-prone Jake Locker. He threw 2,454 yards while throwing for 14 touchdown passes against 12 interceptions.
Fitzpatrick was released by the Titans after they signed quarterback Charlie Whitehurst. His signing makes it even more likely that former starter Matt Schaub will be traded or released by the Texans, according to NBC Sports. He struggled throughout the season, throwing 14 interceptions and eventually losing his job to Case Keenum.
Fitzpatrick is expected to be a valuable backup for the Texans who can be a spot starter if their first-string quarterback gets injured.
