On Wednesday, March 26, James Van Der Beek sat down with HuffPost Live to discuss what kind of trouble he would get into when Dawson’s Creek as well as boy bands were at their prime.
James Van Der Beek, who is best known for his role as Dawson’s Creek main character Dawson Leary, dished about a time where he was paling around with the then-underage boys of ‘N Sync.
“I was in Vegas on New Year’s and somebody came by and said, ‘*NSYNC wants to meet you!’” Van Der Beek told HuffPost Live. “And at the time, *NSYNC was the second to Backstreet Boys, and it was before they had blown up.”
The ‘N Sync boys and Van Der Beek immediately became friends as Van Der Beek described the boys as being “such cool kids.”
He then told a story about all of them trying to get into a nightclub together while the boys of ‘N Sync were still too young to be permitted in. However, according to US Weekly, Van Der Beek thought that he could fix that problem.
“I remember that night, we were all going to some club and they were all too young. And so I went in and somehow passed my ID back so that Justin could get in,” Van Der Beek described to HuffPost Live. “And then Justin got in and then tried to pass it off to [Lance Bass] to get in. By the third time [the bouncers] saw a James Van Der Beek ID, they were like, ‘Ah, I don’t think so, James.’”
