Acclaimed director Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity) teams up with J.J. Abrams (Star Trek) to produce supernatural television drama Believe for NBC this spring.
According to the Associated Press, the show is about a girl with special abilities that pose a potential risk to mankind. The young Bo, played by Johnny Sequoyah, has the power to control nature, levitate, telekinesis, and see the future. Cuaron thought of the idea during production of his Oscar winning film Gravity which won 7 Academy awards.
He mentioned at a media event, "I wanted to do something more grounded, and we wanted to do it with real people, real locations. And I wanted to do something really exciting, but, at the same time, something that would be highly emotional."
Los Angles Daily News notes that Abrams is known for his depth into the supernatural with shows like Lost and Fringe, and has desired to work with Cuaron for over 20 years. As for concept of Believe, Abrams states, “It had at its core a humanity, and that meant humor, and it meant a sense of self-awareness.
Believe also stars Delroy Lindo, Jamie Chung, and Jake McLaughlin. It airs Sunday March 16.
