Former Olympian Johnny Weir claims that domestic violence was one of the reasons that led to his divorce to Victor Voronov.
Weir, 29, shocked many when he announced his recent split, but said it was a long time coming.
“I’ve been having a tough time at home for a long time now, and it’s something that I’ve kept from the public,” Weir said. “I was losing myself being married to my husband. I was losing my objectives in life. I was very isolated from the world.”
According to Yahoo, things between the couple got extremely rocky when Weir left to cover the Sochi games.
Weir claims that after a night of heavy drinking, Voronov began to yell at him about his family and the two began to fight. This is where the alleged altercation took place.
“I was defending myself, and it’s unfortunate that there was a mark left on his body,” Weir explained to Access Hollywood in what he said will be his only interview. “The damage that was done to me was mentally crippling.”
Fox Sports reports that soon-to-be ex-husband Voronov took to the media, claiming to be unaware of the pending divorce.
