Good Morning America anchor Josh Elliott is leaving the show after his current contract ends to join NBC Sports.
People reports that Elliott will be replaced by Amy Robach. Ben Sherwood, President of ABC News is appreciative of Elliott's time at ABC News. Sherwood states,"I want to thank Josh for his many contributions to GMA and ABC News." With Elliott's exit Robach, who announced last October that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, after having a mammogram live on-air will co-anchor Good Morning America alongside Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos.
According to the New York Daily News at NBC Sports Elliott will be covering the NFL, the Olympics and the Triple Crown. Elliott, who is one of Sherwood's favorites at ABC had been locked in tough contract negotiations with the network for the last several weeks. Elliott was seeking a $10 million a year salary, but ABC was only willing to offer him $5 million a year. Currently, Elliott earns $1 million a year. Elliott's exit comes after Lara Spencer signed a new deal to stay on at Good Morning America and following the departure of Sam Champion, who left Good Morning America last December to join The Weather Channel.
