New Orleans Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday will be out for the season as he goes through surgery on a stress fracture in his right tibia.
According to ESPN, Holiday has been out since Jan. 8 due to his injury. He played in 34 games this season before his injury. Holiday averaged 14.7 points per game with 4.2 rebounds and 7.9 assists.
The Pelicans have fallen out of the Western Conference playoff picture since Holiday went down. They have gone 8-15 in that span and are 10 games out of a playoff berth, according to Sports Illustrated. Brian Roberts has replaced Holiday as the starting point guard and is averaging 8.7 points per game with 3.2 assists.
Holiday is in the first year of a four-year, $41 million contract extension that he signed after being traded to New Orleans. He was acquired by the Pelicans from the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2013 NBA draft in exchange for center Nerlens Noel and a 2014 first-round pick.
The Pelicans would hold the 11th overall pick right now if the NBA Draft was held today.
