Standout Kansas University freshman Andrew Wiggins is set to announce on Monday, March 31 that he will declare for the NBA Draft after playing for the Jayhawks in college for a year.
ESPN reports that Wiggins will hold a press conference to announce that he is leaving the college and heading to the NBA.
Wiggins, who averaged 17.1 points and 5.9 rebounds this season, is considered to be one of the best college players. The forward is expected to be selected with one of the top three picks in this year's NBA draft.
Last November, in an interview with ESPN the Magazine, Wiggins hinted at only playing one year of college basketball after being asked what he appreciated most at Kansas. "I would say just being able to enjoy my last year of school," he said.
According to NBC Sports, after Kansas lost to Stanford University in the NCAA men's basketball tournament there was a sense that Wiggins would be leaving and pursue a chance of joining the NBA. During his freshman season at Kansas, Wiggins earned the Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year award and made the All-Big 12 first team.
