Smash alum Katharine McPhee has been tapped to play the female lead in CBS' pilot, Scorpion.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, who first reported the casting, McPhee will play Paige who works as a waitress and is hired to help work with and essentially babysit the main cast of characters for the show.
Scorpion follows the eccentric genius Walter O'Brien (played by Elyes Gabel) and his group of super intelligent people who are grouped together and tasked with helping as the final defense against the complex threats of the modern age.
In addition to Gabel and McPhee, Robert Patrick and Eddie Kaye Thomas have also been cast for the pilot episode.
The former American Idol runner-up was last in the TV series Smash for two seasons and will be in the upcoming film Depravity.
Fast & Furious' Justin Lin will be directing the pilot based off the script by Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton, reports TheWrap. The pair are also on board to executive produce.
Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin and Roberto Orci will executive produce through K/O Paper Products and Scooter Braun and Danny Rose will also executive produce.
