Kobe Bryant is out for the remainder of the season, due to a knee injury, according to an announcement on Wednesday.

According to Sports Illustrated, Bryant said in a statement, “Obviously this has been a frustrating and disappointing season. I appreciate all the support I’ve received from the Lakers and the fans, and look forward to being back and ready for the start of training camp.”

An injury put the L.A. Laker out for the season. Bryant, 35, experienced pain in swelling in late January after medical professionals found a lateral tibial plateau fracture in his left knee. This injury occurred on Dec. 17. Trainer Gary Vitti said in a statement that Bryant needs the time to rehabilitate the injury.

According to ESPN, Bryant said on Twitter, “Thank you for all the support. 7 months to get back and answer this challenge.”

Bryant is one of the most popular players in the NBA. In Nov. 2013, Bryant signed a two-year $48.5 million contract extension.
