Atlanta Braves ace pitcher Kris Medlen left the game in the fourth inning of Sunday’s afternoon game. The right-hander grabbed his elbow after throwing his first pitch to the Mets’ Matt Clark. After the next pitch he walked immediately off the field.
According to cbssports the Braves announced that Medlen has been diagnosed with a right forearm strain and will undergo further evaluations on Monday.
The Braves are concerned about the condition of Medlen’s elbow seeing as he was such a strong starter for them last season. Medlen went 15-12 in 31 starts and recorded an ERA of 3.11. This is not the first time Medlen has had a problem with his throwing arm. According to mlb.com Medlen had Tommy John surgery in August 2010 and missed most of the 2011 season.
This is not the only injury to hit the Braves’ pitching staff so far at camp. Starter Mike Minor has yet to pitch a spring training game due to shoulder problems.
