French king Louis XIII entertained his court at Versailles with Les Vingt-quatre Violons de Roi, The King's 24 Violins. The exclusive orchestra played for kings and the French nobility until 1761, when it was disbanded.
Today, Les Violons Du Roy picked up the tradition but for the general public. Founded in 1984 by Bernard Labadie, Les Violons Du Roy is comprised of 15 musicians playing music from the 17th, 18th and up through the 20th Centuries on different types of modern violins.
Les Violons Du Roy performs in various venues in Montreal, but their home is the Palais Montcalm in Quebec.
We saw this impressive orchestra perform La Truite de Schubert at the Palais Montcalm. This concert featured two of Franz Schubert's masterpieces: the Rosamunde Quartet and the Trout Quintet.
Whether you are a fan or not of classical music, I can't think of a better way to spend a couple hours than with Les Violons Du Roy. Their talent for music was inspiring and the energy they showed on the stage was simply amazing.
If you're in Quebec you won't want to miss out on this incredible musical and cultural experience. Ticket prices vary so be sure to check violonsduroy.com for more information.
