The pizza parlor that provided the now famous delivery from Oscars host Ellen DeGeneres at the ceremony Sunday night has struck gold.
Mama’s & Papa’s got about $10 million in free publicity for the time DeGeneres handed out the slices to stars like Meryl Streep and Jared Leto.
According to TMZ, one commercial slot during the Academy Awards goes for $1.8 million. Considering DeGeneres spent two minutes handing out the pizza and another minute collecting money, the pizza place got $10.8 million of free publicity.
In fact, Mama’s & Papa’s got $75 for delivering three pizzas to the Dolby Theater, so they actually got paid for publicity.
ABC News reports the man in the red hat delivering the pizzas to DeGeneres and the rest of the audience was an actual deliveryman – not a paid actor.
“Ellen’s talk show has picked up quite a few pizzas from us,” one of the staff members told ABC. ”They had us make a giant pizza before for one of her shows.”
