And the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress goes to Lupita Nyong'o for 12 Years a Slave!

The Los Angeles Times reports Nyong'o won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as Patsey, a chosen but mistreated slave in 12 Years a Slave. Nyong'o, role in 12 Years a Slave also won her the award for Best Supporting Actress at the SAG awards in January. 12 Years a Slave director Steve McQueen picked Nyong'o to be in the movie when she was three weeks away from graduating from the Yale Drama School. Nyong'o won the Oscar over Jennifer Lawrence (American Hustle), Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine), Julia Roberts (August: Osage County) and June Squibb (Nebraska).

The Huffington Post reveals how in her speech Nyong'o thanked 12 Years a Slave director McQueen and her brother. Nyong'o ended her speech by saying, "I look down at this golden statue, and may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you're from, your dreams are valid."
