It is well known in Hollywood that dropping a large amount of weight along with an incredible acting performance will likely lead to an Oscar nomination. Take for instance, Tom Hanks in Castaway and most recently, Matthew McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club. Mark Wahlberg is the next actor hoping for that same luck, he recently dropped 61 pounds for his upcoming role.
The weight loss was for his next project The Gambler. Wahlberg will be playing literary professor with addiction issues in the new film.
CNN reported that while Wahlberg was working on the next film in the Transformers franchise, he was 195 and dropped down to under 158 for his role in The Gambler.
EXTRA reported that the actor was determined to become "as thin as possible" for the role.
The weight loss did not come easy for the Transformers star, he even explained in an interview with EXTRA that he is willing to steal food from his younger daughter. "Anytime I smell food, I get crazy… my daughter was eating a blueberry scone, and I was going to jack her for it… literally going to rob my almost 4-year-old daughter for the blueberry muffin. It’s getting bad"," said Wahlberg.
The Gambler will also star John Goodman, Jessica Lange and Michael K. Williams. The movie is set to hit theaters in 2015.
Wahlberg can also be seen in the upcoming Transformers: Age of Extinction which just released a new trailer this week.
