Colorado Avalanche forward Matt Duchene injured his left knee after colliding with a teammate in San Jose over the weekend. He is expected to miss about four weeks because of this injury.

According to ESPN, Duchene hurt his medical collateral ligament. His injury is a big blow to the Avalanche since he is their leading scorer. The 23-year-old has set career highs with 23 goals and 47 assists for the Avalanche.

Duchene leads the team in points with 70 as reported by Rotoworld.

The Avalanche have hinted that they may be able to get through his absence though. Duchene missed three games earlier this season with a strained oblique, and the Avalanche went 3-0 when he was out.

The Avalanche are currently fourth in the Western Conference, and they will look to cling onto that slot in hopes of earning home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs. They are one point ahead of the fifth-seeded Chicago Blackhawks.
