The team from Mystery Science Theater 3000 is returning to television on April Fool’s Day.
Mystery Science Theater ran for 11 seasons, and almost 200 episodes. It premiered in Minneapolis, and later was shown on The Comedy Channel/ Comedy Central. Then, it ran on the Sci-Fi Channel for three more seasons. The sit-com won a Peabody award and was nominated for several Emmys, according to the Huffington Post. The series was cancelled in 1999, but the team behind the show continued to work on separate projects.
The main performers in Mystery Science Theater 3000 were Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett. More recently, the actors have been lending their comedic talents to Rifftrax. They provide commentary for hit movies like The Avengers or Twilight, according to Liberty Voice. Nelson has spent his time writing books and articles for Cracked.com. Corbett co-wrote the 2008 film, Meet Dave starring Eddie Murphy.
The show will air on National Geographic. Total Riff Off will have three episodes. Each episode will be an hour long.
