NBC has scheduled a whopping six scripted shows to air during the summer, the most for any network in 21 years, the peacock network announced today. The six shows will be rolled out between May and July.
Up first is The Night Shift, an hour-long show starring Ken Leung, Jill Flint and Eoin Macken and was produced by Sony Pictures TV. The executive producers are Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah. The medical drama is set at San Antonio Memorial Hospital and focuses on the night shift. It starts on May 27.
Undateable is a half-hour comedy from Doozer and Warner Bros. TV that will be unloaded in hour blocks starting on May 29. Featuring Chris D’Elia, Brent Morin and Bianca Kajlich, the show is overseen by Bill Lawrence, Adam Sztykiel and Jeff Ingold.
Crossbones starts on May 30 and stars John Malkovich as Blackbeard the pirate in 1715. It was produced by Universal TV with Parkes/MacDonald Productions.
Taxi Brooklyn bows on June 25. The EuropaCorp TV production focuses on the relationship between an NYPD detective and a taxi driver.
Welcome To Sweden and Working The Engels are two half-hour comedies that will start on July 10. Sweden is an eOne, TV4, FLX and Syskon production has Greg Poehler) and Josephine Bornebusch heading back to Stockholm to spend time with family. Parks and Recreation star Amy Poehler is among the executive producers on the show.
Halfire Entertainment and Shaw Media produced Engels, a comedy about a family stuck running a law firm, but only one member has any qualifications to do so.
America’s Got Talent will start up again on May 27,while Last comic Standing will be back on May 22. The popular American Ninja Warrior will also returns on May 26. The new series Food Fighters will premiere on July 22.
NBC's decision to air summer shows follows moves by Fox and CBS to do the same. CBS' summer shows include Under The Dome and Extant, while Fox's 24 miniseries will run into the summer.
