New England Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard was arrested for assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest in 2012.

ESPN reports that Dennard was sentenced to two years probation, 30 days in jail and community service. This caused Dennard to have character concerns heading into the 2012 NFL draft.

These character concerns ultimately caused Dennard to fall to the seventh round before he was selected by the Patriots. These concerns were confirmed again when Dennard was arrested for drunk driving in July 2013. This arrest doubled his jail sentence and extended his probation to three years.

According to Boston Herald, Dennard will report to a Nebraska jail to serve a 60-day sentence. He can be released in 38 days with good behavior, however. He has already served three days so he can be out in five weeks.

Serving his time now will allow Dennard to return to the Patriots' offseason workouts, which are expected to begin in mid-April.

Dennard has had a promising start to his career with four interceptions and 75 tackles in two seasons. He will look to put his past behind him and propel the Patriots to the Super Bowl after an AFC Championship loss to the Denver Broncos.
