The NFL Competition Committee is reportedly discussing whether to make the point after touchdowns a 42-yard try.
According to NFL.com, the committee is in talks about placing the ball at the 25-yard line for the PAT attempts, which would make the extra point a 42-yard attempt.
One member of the competition committee acknowledged that the talks are still in the early stages and nothing is set in stone yet.
“There is no consensus yet. We could experiment in preseason, but we are not there yet."
The Bleacher Report noted that Peter King of Sports Illustrated said that two-point conversions would still remain at the same distance it is currently at.
In January, league commissioner Roger Goodell spoke about eliminating the PATs completely, because the attempts are almost a sure thing.
“The extra point is almost automatic,” Goodell said. “I believe we had five missed extra points this year out of 1,200 some odd [attempts]. So it’s a very small fraction of the play, and you want to add excitement with every play.”
Since they are in talks now, the committee will most likely come up with some type of change to the PATs by the start of the NFL season.
