The NFL Player's Association announced Wednesday that the NFL players have elected Eric Winston as the new union president.
Winston, currently a free agent offensive tackle, replaces Domonique Foxworth as president, according to CBS Sports. He played for the Arizona Cardinals in 2013.
Winston has been in the league for eight years and has started a total of 119 consecutive games, which is currently the second-longest streak in the NFL, according to ESPN.
After just one day on the job, Winston is already making headlines. In regards to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell wanting to expand the season from 16 games to 18 games, Winston said in an interview with USA Today Sports that he will not allow the expansion to happen. He states that it is an issue with the safety of NFL players.
Goodell has said that making the NFL season longer will be better for the game and it is what the fans want. The players and NFLPA seem to have a different viewpoint on the topic.
Some people may actually want the NFL to make its season longer but it seems like they will have to wait a while for it to happen, if it even happens at all.
