The Grey’s Anatomy star, Patrick Dempsey, has lost his mother to cancer.
People reports that Dempsey’s mother Amanda, passed away on Monday with the company of her family. Amanda was 79-years-old and was battling ovarian cancer. She fought the disease since 1997.
Dempsey, 48, and his sisters, Mary and Alicia, were inspired to partner up with the Central Maine Medical Center, to start The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing. Amanda was receiving treatment where her children started the fund.
About the program Dempsey said, "For a family to get a cancer diagnosis is devastating, and all the information out there can be overwhelming. I talked to my sister[s] about a place where people could go for all this type of information and help. Knowledge is power."
Peter Chalke, President and CEO of Central Maine Healthcare, released a statement about the loss of Amanda Dempsey Center website.
"The entire Central Maine Medical family mourns the passing of Amanda Dempsey,” said Chalke. “Amanda Dempsey was both a great lady and a determined fighter who displayed tremendous courage, class and grace during her long battle with cancer ... We will miss Amanda deeply, but we were all blessed by knowing her and being inspired by her life story.”
