New York has welcomed one of its own back home. Phil Jackson has re-joined the Knicks organization in New York as the president.
Jackson has been hired to a five-year contract with the team and will be in charge of all basketball operations under the Knicks owner, James Dolan, reported USA Today. Jackson previously led the Knicks to their first championship title in 1973 as a key reserve for the Red-Holzman-coached team.
“The idea of developing a culture is a overwrought word in the NBA right now, but that’s what brought me here. Players need to know they are supported by the team and coaching staff,” said Jackson.
As previously reported Jackson had been “seriously considering” the offer with the Knicks in the past weeks. It was reported that he would be paid $12 million a year and work with the team’s general manager, Steve Mills.
Jackson has had no experience in the front office however has a record 11 championship with the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers as coach.
