The beloved science documentary series will return tonight, March 9th, with an introduction from none other than the President of the United States.
According to a statement from Fox in the L.A. Times the introduction "invites a new generation to embrace the spirit of discovery and inspires viewers to explore new frontiers and imagine limitless possibilities for the future."
The President previewed the series last month during the first White House Student Film Festival. The original 1980 Cosmos: A Personal Voyage series was hosted by the late Carl Sagan. Stepping into his shoes for Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey is Neil DeGrasse Tyson.
The astrophysicist and educator recently told Rolling Stone that the series will have an emphasis on "how and why any of this science matters, what effect does it have on your outlook, your cosmic perspective," and added "in that way Cosmos can be taken to heart; Cosmos can influence you not only intellectually but emotionally. And with its good doses of awe and wonder, it can even affect you spiritually."
Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey airs on Fox and 9 related channels at 9 PM on Sundays with an encore on National Geographic.
