The prosecution in the Oscar Pistorius murder trial rested on Tuesday after more than three weeks of testimony from various witnesses.

According to the Associated Press, defense lawyer Brian Webber said that it is likely that Pistorius will take the stand at his own trial, but did not say when that could happen.

USA Today noted that chief defense lawyer Barry Roux tried to paint a picture of a loving relationship between the athlete and his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. He pointed to sweet text message exchanges between the two, which were quite different from the WhatsApp messages that the prosecution read aloud in court a day earlier.

In the latter messages, Steenkamp said that she was scared of the former Olympian sometimes and talked about his jealousy.

The double-amputee is accused of intentionally murdering the model in the pre-dawn hours of Valentine’s Day last year. Pistorius has plead not guilty and maintains that he fatally shot Steenkamp after mistaking her for an intruder.

Court resumes on Friday.
