James Roday has landed his first post-Psych gig with the Good Session pilot with CBS as the male lead.
According to Variety, the half-hour single-camera comedy comes from Chuck's Matt Miller and John Hamburg and will be produced by Warner Bros. Television.
The pilot script will be written by Miller, who will also executive produce with Hamburg. Hamburg will also be directing the pilot.
Roday will play Joel, who is a husband and middle-school guidance counselor. He is married to Lindsay, a role not yet cast, and he believes that his marriage is on good footing, until they begin to disagree about when is the right time to start a family.
To help figure out their issues, the couple decide to attend couples counseling where they embark on a tough and embarrassing, yet funny, path as they seek to get back on the same page, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
The only other actor cast for the CBS pilot is Rich Sommer, from Mad Men.
Roday has spent eight seasons on the hourlong comedy Psych, about a fake psychic detective, with Dule Hill at USA Network. The show is set to end once the current seasons finishes.
