Friday nights 4-2 victory for the New York Rangers over the Winnipeg Jets brought an abundance of excitement—Hagelin got his first career hat trick while Lundqvist tied Richter’s win record at 301 wins.
Hagelin proudly received the broadway hat due to the impressive skill he displayed during the game. Tied at 2-2, Hagelin received the puck form St. Louis as was able to put it right in the net. The entire play took 7.8 seconds.
“I was going to go for a change, but I see him coming out of the box and going hard for the puck, and he just made one of those skill plays,” Hagelin said, according to The NY Daily News. . “He plays the puck underneath the goalie’s stick.”
Even though he’s still working towards his first goal as a Ranger, St. Louis has made his presence known on the ice. Kreider lent a helping hand to the team by scoring one of the four goals of the night, as reported by The Alternative Press
Being previous teammates, it was expected that Richards and St. Louis would come together as a powerhouse but that hasn’t been the case thus far. Vigneault decided to play around with the lines, and ended with Richards, Hagelin and Pouliot on one, Zuccarello, Brassard and St. Louis on another, and Stepan, Kreider and Nash together as well.
Lundqvist happened to let two goals slide past him in the first period but continued on to make some pretty big saves, including one against Frolik where his left pad acted as his saving grace. Even though the first period seemed to bring disappointment, Lundqvist was able to walk away with a tie for Mike Richter’s win record of 301 games.
“It’s kind of surreal to see yourself up there with him,” Lundqvist said. “I’m really excited and proud about it, and I hope I have a lot more to give.”
Friday’s game was particularly good to the Swedes of the team.
