Ray Rice, the Baltimore Ravens running back, married his fiancee Janay Palmer on Friday following his aggravated assault indictment.

Sources claim that their wedding ceremony had been in the works for a couple weeks, reports ESPN.

Buffalo Bills linebacker Brandon Spikes was not so enthused about their marriage, noting that it was likely just a move intended "to save his image."

Spikes was fairly critical of Rice on Twitter, with one tweet reading, "I don't see how anyone can respect him. Put your hands on a woman. The woman that had ur child." The linebacker also added that "someone should choke him out."

A grand jury indicted the veteran running back on Thursday of aggravated assault for an incident that happened in February at an Atlantic City casino.

Rice was accused of knocking out Palmer and was initially charged with simple assault, but it was upgraded to aggravated. If he is found guilty, he could face a three-to five-year sentence.

Michael Diamondstein, Rice's attorney, said after the indictment that the charge should be dropped because neither Rice nor Palmer were interested in continuing the case. Palmer was also charged with simple assault, but it was dropped.
