Giuseppe "Joe" Giudice and his wife Teresa from The Real Housewives of New Jersey have pleaded guilty for fraud.

The Associated Press reports that both Joe and Teresa, who have petitioned to be tried separately, have pleaded guilty in a Newark courtroom on Tuesday.

The couple was charged on several counts of fraud including bankruptcy fraud, conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, and failing to pay taxes.

Last year, they were accused of exaggerating their income when applying for loans in 2009, before Housewives premiered. Then after the first season ended, they were accused of hiding assets when filing for bankruptcy.

The two are also charged for fabricating tax returns and W-2's, and for fraudulent loan and mortgage applications.

According to E! News, Teresa has released a statement claiming that she will take responsibility and accept the consequences.

"Today, I took responsibility for a series of mistakes I made several years ago," Teresa said. "I have said throughout that I respect the legal process and thus I intend to address the court directly at sentencing."

Teresa could serve anywhere between 21 to 27 months. Joe could serve between 37 to 46 months, and may face deportation back to his native Italy.

The two have four children together, and Teresa is sorry that her family had to get involved.

"I am heartbroken that this is affecting my family, especially my four young daughters, who mean more to me than anything in the world."
