The Boston Red Sox opened the season Monday by placing right fielder Shane Victorino on the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring injury.
According to ESPN, Victorino strained his hamstring in the final exhibition game on Saturday.
The team announced that Jackie Bradley Jr. has been called up to fill the roster spot.
Victorino, who was a key part of the Sox getting to and winning the World Series last year, is in the second year of a three-year, $39 million contract.
The 33-year-old was dealt away from the Philadelphia Phillies, the club he won a championship with in 2008, to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2012. He was then dealt from there and found a home in Boston where he won a second championship.
The switch hitter batted .294 for the Sox last year and had 15 home runs with 61 RBIs in 122 games, Baseball-Reference.com noted.
The Hawaiian native had offseason thumb surgery and missed some time in camp with a ribcage problem.
