Red Sox reliever Rich Hill reveals his infant son has died

Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Rich Hill arrived at spring training and revealed to reporters the tragic news that his infant son has died.

According to NESN, Hill got to Fort Myers, Fla. on Wednesday night and told reporters on Thursday that his absence was due to the illness and death of his infant son Brooks.

“We had a son on Dec. 26, and he was born with multiple issues that we confronted and had to deal with as we were moving through the last couple of months at Mass General (Hospital),” Hill explained. “Unfortunately, he succumbed, and he has passed. He taught us a lot of things, and unfortunately things didn’t work out.”

CBS reported that the infant passed on Feb.24.

Hill, who signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox in the offseason, appeared in 40 games last year and had a 1.14 ERA.

Of course baseball is second to a tragedy such as this, but the pitcher said it is doing him some good to be around his teammates and the game again.
