Relief pitcher, Guillermo Mota, announced Sunday that after 14 seasons pitching in the major league he is retiring.
Mota is currently with the Kansas City Royals but never officially pitched for them. He has however, pitched for several teams including the Expos, Dodgers, Marlins, Indians, Mets, Brewers and Giants. Mota has made a relief appearance in 743 games and has a career record of 39-45 and a 3.94 ERA.
Mota, 40, has had a very long career and feels it is time to hang up the uniform. According to mlb Royals general manager Dayton Moore said, “I've always admired Guillermo as a person and a player. I'd like to thank him. However, in talking with him, he indicated that he wanted to spend more time with his family."
Mota did face some personal trouble throughout his 14 seasons. According to the associatedpress Mota was suspended 50 games for using performance-enhancing drugs while with the New York Mets in 2007.
