Scandal regular Joe Morton has been cast in a regular role on the TNT pilot Proof.
According to TV Guide, Proof centers on Dr. Katherine Russo, played by Jennifer Beals, a surgeon who starts investigations into supernatural occurrences, such as resurrections and hauntings. At the same time, Russo struggles with the death of her teenage son and her rocky relationship with her daughter.
Morton is set to play Dr. Charles Russell, the head of Russo’s hospital. While he admires her abilities, he still tries to control her more renegade tendencies.
As The Hollywood Reporter noted, Morton has recently been garnering attention for his role on Scandal. He plays Rowan, the father of Kerry Washington’s Olivia Pope and the former head of a black-ops group. He won the NAACP Image Award for outstanding supporting actor in a drama for the role.
Previous credits for Morton include Terminator 2, Speed and Eureka.
Alex Graves is to write the pilot for Proof, with Rob Bragin writing and Kyra Sedgwick executive-producing.
