There was an internet hoax going around this past weekend that claimed former Seinfeld star Wayne Knight was dead. The death hoax claimed Knight died in a car accident, but he took to Twitter to assure his fans that he’s not dead.

Knight took the opportunity to joke about his rumored passing, saying he now has a slew of new Twitter followers as a result.

He first wrote, “Some of you will be glad to hear this, others strangely disappointed, but….I am alive and well!” later adding, “Does someone have to DIE to trend? Geez! Thanks for all the love everybody. I didn’t know you cared. Glad to be breathing!”

He continued to tweet about the hoax, writing “Regrets to my friends and family who were shocked this morning and the family of the woman who actually died in my ‘supposed’ accident,” adding, “Thanks to the small town of new followers who came onboard just to tell me they’re glad I didn’t kick! I feel good about the result as well.”

On Monday, he wrote he was having a good St. Patrick’s Day. “In spite of being declared dead yesterday and woken to an earthquake, I’m having a glorious St. Patrick’s Day with my family! Erin Go Bragh!” he wrote.

According to Daily News, the report about Knight’s death claimed he died in a tractor trailer accident on Sunday near the border of Pennsylvania and New York. The phony report said he died of blunt force trauma.

It’s thought that someone created a fake TMZ site, which reported the news and actually convinced some people that Knight was dead.

Knight is just the latest celebrity to get a death hoax, other victims include Morgan Freeman, Cher and Eddie Murphy.
