Serena Williams won the Sony Open tennis tournament on Saturday in Key Biscayne, Florida. Williams defeated second-ranked Li Na to reach her record breaking seventh win at this tournament.
Williams started off slow but managed to pull it together defeating Li 7-5, 6-1. According to The Windsor Star Williams had some issues with her serve as she only made only 44 percent of her first attempts.
According to the Miami Herald Williams commented on her record-passing victory saying, “I was actually super excited at the end because I remember sitting here last year trying to get to six. Obviously I wanted to have the most titles here.”
The previous record amount of wins at the Sony Open was six and held by Williams and Andre Agassi. But, Williams has once again proven her talent as she surpasses her own record. Williams is now just one of four women to win a tournament seven times. She joins Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert and Steffi Graf in achieving that honor.
