Los Angeles Lakers point guard Steve Nash is now 40 and out for the season with nerve and back injuries, but he has no plans on retiring this summer.
According to Sports Illustrated, Nash still has a year remaining on his Lakers contract. In July 2012, Nash signed a three-year contract worth $27.9 million.
Nash was expected to be a driving force for a superstar-stacked Lakers team with shooting guard Kobe Bryant and power forward Pau Gasol. This team also included center Dwight Howard, who is now with the Houston Rockets.
After the Lakers emerged as the preseason title favorites, they disappointed and were swept in the first round of the playoffs by the San Antonio Spurs.
Nash has dealt with injuries all season and in just 10 games played, he has only scored 7.6 points per game while dishing out 4.7 assists.
Despite these injuries, Nash has no plans to retire. He explained that he wants the money since it is legally guaranteed to him, according to USA Today.
