The Tennessee Volunteers beat Mercer on Sunday to advance to the sweet 16 round of the NCAA tournament. Mercer managed to beat tournament favorite, Duke in the opening round but got beat by the Volunteers 83-63.
Tennessee had to prove their worthiness by competing in a play-in game to even make it in the tournament. Not only did they make it in, they are sending teams home left and right.
According to The Tennessean the Vols have come a long way in just a few weeks. Less than four weeks ago they were 16-11 and everyone thought they would be going to the NIT tournament, not the big dance.
According to Times Free Press Josh Richardson who had a career-high 26 points for Tennessee said, “"We had rocky times this season, so I could see where the doubt comes from, but it's all coming together now.”
The eleven-seeded Vols move on to face second-seeded Michigan on Friday night in Indianapolis.
