In another March Madness thriller, No. 7 seed Texas prevailed over No. 10 seed Arizona State, stunning the Sun Devils with a buzzer beater. The Sun Devils tied the game with 17 seconds remaining off a couple of free throws by Jonathan Gilling, who provided 15 points off the bench. The game appeared to be headed into overtime, but the Longhorns had other plans.
ESPN reports that Cameron Ridley made the game-winning shot for the Longhorns. He made a layup after Jonathan Holmes attempted a three-pointer that bounced off the backboard. He finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Martez Walker added 16 points for the Longhorns.
After a replay reviewed Ridley's shot, the call stood. This gives the Longhorns their first NCAA tournament win since 2011.
The Sun Devils were led by Jordan Bachynski, who scored 25 points on 8-for-14 shooting. Jahii Carson added 19 points.
The Longhorns will play the No. 2 seed Michigan Wolverines on Saturday, according to KXAN. The Wolverines defeated Wofford 57-40 in their tournament opener.
