That’s right. The Boondocks will be returning on April 21, but the return is bittersweet. The creative genius behind the satirical animated series, Aaron McGruder, wasn’t involved in the making of the fourth and final season.
According to the LA Times, the show producers from Sony Pictures Television noted in a press release that the season “was produced without the involvement of Aaron McGruder, when a mutually agreeable production schedule could not be determined.”
The Peabody award winning show is based on a comic strip McGruder created in 1996. The strip chronicled the life of 10-year-old Huey Freeman and his brother Riley Freeman who live in the suburbs with their grandfather. Huey Freeman’s character is a black militant while Riley Freeman is a wanna-be-gangster.
After the show’s hiatus since 2010, McGruder took to Facebook last week claiming the network Adult Swim has taken control of The Boondocks, notes Gawker.
McGruder has yet to make any statements regarding Sony’s press release and is currently working on the first season of his new show, Black Jesus.
