The Civil Wars is an indie folk duo that hails from Nashville, Tennessee. The dynamic duo consists of singer-songwriters Joy Williams and John Paul White. The Grammy award-winning duo met in 2008 when they were writing songs at a music studio in Nashville.

Williams said the reason behind the band's name came from driving around looking at all the Civil War monuments. The Civil Wars received a Grammy Award for Best Country/Group Performance and Best Folk album in 2012.

The Civil Wars' most recent album is their self titled album The Civil Wars. Though the band announced they were on hiatus in November 2012, in June 2013 they released hit single "The One That Got Away" from their Civil Wars album which was featured in the ABC Family show Ravenswood and also played in the 2013 remake of Stephen King's Carrie.
