The New York Rangers took a 3-1 victory Wednesday night over the Philadelphia Flyers and moved three points ahead of them—leaving them in third place in the Metropolitan Division race.
Henrik Lundqvist came extremely close to his second shutout in three games, but fell short when the Flyers managed to sneak a goal in. He did, however, stop 30 shots on goal.
Derick Dorsett scored the first goal of the game with a well-executed backhander, while Ryan McDonagh enhanced the score in the second. Dominic Moore made it 3-0 in the third, until the Flyers snuck in a quick goal. Despite three slipups, Flyers goalie Steve Mason made 26 saves, as reported by The Alternative Press.
Jakub Voracek scored the only goal for the Flyers with 1:53 left in the game. The late goal was his 21st off a faceoff.
Ryan McDonagh has been a hot commodity for the Rangers as of lately. His wrist shot, which resulted in the second rangers goal, acted as McDonagh’s 14th goal, according to CBS Sports.His shots are entertaining and his hits are hard—McDonagh is a player to keep your eye on.
“The King” took care of everything on his end. Lundqvist displayed an amazing stop when Adam Hall attempted at putting the puck in the net—Lundqvist’s right pad stopped the shot and he then slid onto his stomach to cover the loose puck.
The New York Rangers have eight games remaining, while the Philadelphia Flyers have 10. The blueshirts will hit the road for four games straight and will face the Calgary Flames at 9 p.m. on Friday.
