The AMC network confirmed that the rumored spinoff for The Walking Deadis, in fact, happening. Writer and producer Dave Erikson joined Robert Kirkman and Gale Anne Hurd, creator and producer for The Walking Dead, for the spinoff project.
The series remains untitled as of now, but rumors are circulating that the show will be a prequel that mainly highlights the events and storylines that led up to the post-apocalyptic world.
Only a few details have been released, such as the fact that there will be none of the same characters on the new series, as reported by Uproxx. Robert Kirkman established that the show will have a brand new location as well as cast.
"We are going to see an entirely different corner of The Walking Dead," Kirkman said in an interview with IGN. "It definitely won’t be set in Georgia – I can at least say that. It’s important to us that this show exists on its own. The spinoff has to be a show worthy of existing, or else we’ve all sold out.”
AMC had original plans of releasing the series in 2015, but that may not be the case anymore—the network wants to take their time with the show to make sure everything falls into place perfectly.
