Tiger Woods withdrew from the Honda Classic tournament on Sunday after suffering lower back spasms.
Woods did not play well on the front 9, shooting a 40 with four bogeys, a double bogey and only one birdie. Something was clearly wrong, as Woods was seen stretching out his back on numerous occasions.
"It's my lower back with spasms," said Woods. "It started this morning warming up."
Before dropping out of the tournament, Woods was putting together a decent back-9 with 4 straight pars. But the pain was just too much to bear.
According to ESPN, Woods said it was the same feeling he had at the Barclays last summer when he suffered back spasms in the final round and actually fell to the ground after hitting an approach shot.
Woods deferred when asked whether or not he would play the Cadillac Championship next week at Doral, according to CBS Sports.
"It's too early to tell. I need treatment every day until Thurs to try to calm it down. We'll see."
Injuries have plagued Woods in recent years. He had a major knee surgery following his 2008 U.S. Open victory. He withdrew from the Players Championship in 2011 with an Achilles and knee injury, and withdrew again in 2012 at the WGC-Doral tournament after 12 holes of the final round due to Achillies issues.
The Masters, the PGA's biggest tournament of the year, is just 40 days away.
